Whataburger

The first time I ever saw a Whataburger unit was when I was a young child, and I’ve loved the brand ever since. Since 2024, I’ve been part of a lean team that acts as Whataburger’s social partner. From paid social ads, event coverage, and organic social, we’ve had the great fun of bringing this 75 year old brand to life across platforms.

WHATAMARATHON RUNNER

Whataburger fans are a different breed. Superfans that let their fandom fly no matter the situation. Julio is one of those superfans, who continually reached out to Whataburger in the comments and DMs for swag or points. This time, he was running a marathon, and wanted a little something sweet & spicy before the race. Whataburger decided to go bigger; giving him a WhataRunner outfit for the race, custom WhataShoes (created by SGNY), on the ground cheer squad coverage, and a surprise after race party where he could try a long discontinued burger.

WHATABURGER BREAKFAST FRIENDS

What started out as a silly paid ad turned into a trilogy. Introducing the talking Whataburger Breakfast Friends. B.O.B. (Breakfast on a Bun) Ranchero, Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, and Cuppa Coffee. In a time where paid ad collections have been filled with memes, and low fidelity comedic videos, this series was a welcome change to the unsuspecting audience. The series ends on a cliffhanger, so we’ll see what happens in the next trilogy.

ORGANIC WHATAFUN

No matter the style or the tone, I always take the challenge head on. From making an animation using POP elements to building something from scratch to appease fandom, it’s never the same thing twice. Trending to starting a trend, it’s a blast to help make this brand feel loved and seen by the fans.

WHATABURGER CHOOSE YOUR OWN CHICKEN ADVENTURE

A Whataburger “choose your own” meal deal wouldn’t be complete without a “choose your own adventure” post. In one week, I had to figure out how to write and design a mini-book that had a complete “choose your own adventure” logic to it. A nice mix of food, fantasy and a little bit of fun made this one come to life. In my archives is a whole second volume waiting to be released.
